Description
What is a Ladder sign or Entrance Sign?
Ladder Sign
Individual signs/ladders are fixed to the front of the posts with screws. You can choose either self assembly or we can pre construct the sign and ship fully constructed for you.
Entrance Sign
Individual signs/ladders are fixed on the inside of the posts using traditional mortice and tennon joinery methods. This is a stronger construction and looks more traditional. Signs/ladders cannot be changed once fitted.
Oak
All our Oak is Prime A Grade European Oak. Please note that as Oak is a natural timber the grain will vary from sign to sign. In European oak, you will get a variety of grain changes, muldullary rays and small knots.
Iroko
Iroko timber, also known as African teak, is a dense hardwood native to tropical Africa. Its heartwood ranges from yellow to golden or medium brown, darkening over time. Resistant to decay, Iroko is popular for outdoor applications like decking and boat-building. It’s durable, strong, and has a coarse texture with interlocked grain.
Posts
The posts are made from Prime A Grade European Oak and are 60 x 60mm or 75 x 75mm Square.
A CAD drawing will be emailed after you placed your order to show exactly how your sign will look, once this has been approved we cannot accept returns.
We have selected the most commonly asked fonts as an easy option to pick from, however, if you would like a font we have not got listed then please get in contact to see if we have it available. Images of the fonts to choose from are in the image gallery to view.
Please be aware, the more text you have the smaller it becomes, so choose the correct size!
With this option, not only do we still carve the timber, we then apply 2 coats of paint to the engraved text.
Oiled
Our Oak signs are treated with Rubio Monocoat Woodcream to give protection from the elements.

Please note:
Transparent (clear wood cream), which allows the wood to age naturally, but protects it and makes it water-repellent.
Painted
All our painted signs are finished with Zinnser exterior water-based paint
Our entrance/ladders signs come either fully assembled or easy assembly with screws; fix them into the ground with your preferred method. Stake posts or post holders are the easiest and best to remove in the future.
If installing straight into the ground/earth further treatment processes may be required, we recommend Bitumen paint for this. This may also be required if using post holders as water can ‘sit’ in the bottom of the post/stake holders.
For oiled Oak Signs
The pearl effect (water-beading) will gradually diminish and treatment will be required.
STEP 1. The wood must be cleaned with a mixture of 10% Rubio Monocoat Exterior Wood Cleaner and water. After the use of Rubio Monocoat Exterior Wood Cleaner, clean the surface by using water at low pressure and a soft brush; there is no need for sanding. Consult the accompanying technical data sheet before use.
STEP 2. Stir Rubio WoodCream well and dilute it with Rubio WoodCream Softener in a ratio from 9 parts Rubio WoodCream and 1 part Rubio WoodCream Softener to max. 1 part Rubio WoodCream and 1 part Rubio WoodCream Softener in order to achieve the desired result.
STEP 3. Apply it carefully and evenly, to the vertical surface with a block brush suitable for water-beading products, in the direction of the wood. Work in zones of 3 to 4 boards in the direction of the wood fibre. It’s best to work wet in wet. Spread out the product in one go with the application brush.
If you want a different design layout, size, or shape, then feel free to ask. Simply email a basic design to use and we can create a CAD image to show how it could look. We can also add pictures on request.
Delivery is usually via DPD freight service.
Manufacture time will be emailed at the time of order, with your CAD drawing if reauested.
