Oak

All our Oak is Prime A Grade European Oak. Please note that as Oak is a natural timber the grain will vary from sign to sign and some knots may be visible.

In European oak, you will get a variety of grain changes, muldullary rays and small knots.

Iroko

Iroko timber, also known as African teak, is a dense hardwood native to tropical Africa. Its heartwood ranges from yellow to golden or medium brown, darkening over time. Resistant to decay, Iroko is popular for outdoor applications like decking and boat-building. It’s durable, strong, and has a coarse texture with interlocked grain.

Abodo

Abodo, is a thermally treated pine. The thermal modification process means Abodo has enhanced stability, reduced resin content, is a beautiful homogenous brown colour, and is naturally durable.Further info;Sizes of 300mm+ high in oak and Iroko will be constructed of two planks glued together, a small joint line will be visible on the outside edge.Sizes of 240mm+ high in abodo will be constructed of two planks glued together, a small joint line will be visible on the outside edge.A CAD drawing will be emailed after you placed your order to show exactly how your sign will look, once this has been approved we cannot accept returns.

We have selected the most commonly asked fonts as an easy option to pick from, however if you would like a font we have not got listed then please get in contact to see if we have it available. Images of the fonts to chose from are in the image gallery to view.Please be aware, the more text you have the smaller it becomes, so choose the correct size!

With this option, not only do we still carve the timber, we then apply 2 coats of enamel sign writing paint into the engraved text. Black painted text is the most visible option to stand out against the colour of oak. The gold option is visible but not suited for smaller signs with smaller engraved letters.All our paint is Zinsser allcoat paint mixed to Farrow and Ball colours or stock colours.

Our signs can come with a choice of ways to hang your signs.Pre Drilled Holes – Pre Drilled hole space is generally 20x20mm in from each corner on 120/150/180 & 240mm high signs. On the 70 & 95mm signs the pre drilled screw holes are centered.Right angle brackets – These fixings allow the signs to be mounted within two posts.Hidden Keyhole Brackets – If you choose keyhole brackets for flush easy fitting, simply screw 2 or 4 screws (dependant on height of the sign) in the wall that the sign will be mounted and slide the sign onto the screws. (they need to protrude out slightly to fit into the keyhole brackets).Closed eye hooks, we set these at 50mm in from each end. If you want different spacing let us know.We recommend that if you choose to install signs yourself without fixings options by Hartwood Timber. Then fix the signs to a secure solid wall/post with fixings in each corner to ensure stability. Using wall stand offs, is also advised to stop any water being trapped behind the sign. Our pre drilled and hidden fixing options both come with A4 Marine grade screws and wall stand offs. A2 or A4 stainless crews must be used at all times with Oak to ensure black/purple tannin stains do not occur.If your sign cracks/warps or turns grey we can not be held responsible for this, as wood is a natural product. It may do this once exposed to the sun and the weather.

Each post comes with one end pointed, so you can either have the pointed end in the ground or above the sign as a pyramid top.The softwood posts are tanalised and the oak posts are treated with the same oil as the signs.We do not fix the posts to the sign due to problems with shipping and also to allow your own personal choice of fixing height.

Rubio Monocoat Woodcream

Maintenance instructions:STEP 1. The wood must be cleaned with a mixture of 10% Rubio Monocoat Exterior Wood Cleaner and water. After the use of Rubio Monocoat Exterior Wood Cleaner, clean the surface by using water at low pressure and a soft brush; there is no need for sanding. Consult the accompanying technical data sheet before use.STEP 2. Stir Rubio WoodCream well and dilute it with Rubio WoodCream Softener in a ratio from 9 parts Rubio WoodCream and 1 part Rubio WoodCream Softener to max. 1 part Rubio WoodCream and 1 part Rubio WoodCream Softener in order to achieve the desired result.STEP 3. Apply it carefully and evenly, to the vertical surface with a block brush suitable for water-beading products, in the direction of the wood. Work in zones of 3 to 4 boards in the direction of the wood fibre. It’s best to work wet in wet. Spread out the product in one go with the application brush.

RMC HYBRID WOOD PROTECTOR

Refreshing the colour and protection of wood treated with RMC Hybrid Wood Protector is done with the same product, in the original colour. Sanding will not be necessary!INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Clean the surface with water and allow to dry.
2. Apply the oil. (If you have painted text, especially white, avoid getting oil onto this as this could affect the colour of the paint).
3. Allow a few minutes to react.
4. Remove any excessive oil.

Morrells Danish Oil – All signs purchased prior to June 1st 2020

Depending on the location of your sign, the finish will require toping up as danish oil builds up a barrier of layers to protect from the elements.INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Clean the surface with water and allow to dry.
2. Depending on the age of your sign, light sanding may be required. 240grit or above, in the same grain direction to avoid scratches.
3. Apply the oil, with a rag. (If you have painted text, especially white, avoid getting oil onto this as this could affect the colour of the paint). Allow a few minutes to react.
4. Remove any excessive oil.
5. Allow to dry for a few hours, then re-apply again.

Delivery is usually 7-10 working days from confirmation of the image but in busy periods this may be longer. This information will be emailed to you with your CAD drawing.
